Instructions: Take 4 pipecleaners and twist 2 of the together and then twist the other 2 together so they are stronger. Take the ends from both stronger pipe cleaners and twist them together. Hold it around the upper part of your forehead where you want the crown to sit and then twist the other ends together to create the base of the crown.
Take 2 more pipe cleaners in 2 different colors and twist one end from each together again. This time roll the pipe cleaners into a rosette (like a snail) leave a tail to attach it to the crown. Make a few more and attach to the crown. I took an extra pipe cleaner and wove it between the rosette on the inside of the crown to help them from unrolling, I put the flowers very close together winding into each other for more strength. Go over the crown and make sure that there are no sharp points that will stick into a little head.
Now, cut 3 or 4 long stands (approx 4 ft) of ribbon. Hold the strands together and at the center point tie them to the back of the crown so that they flow down the back of the neck.
Butterfly Flier Craft
This is a very different toilet paper roll craft than most. It ends up “larger than life” (about one square foot) and is fun to play with. If you look closely at the photo, you can see the tp roll in the center of the butterfly’s body… that will give you a feel for the size of the finished craft. Pull the yarn (takes two people) and the butterfly will fly between the players. Click here for full instructions.
Flower Fairy Friends
These fairy dolls would probably be a little bit easier for an
older child. Use different colored flowers and make lots of fairies.
Materials: Silk Flowers Pipe cleaners Large wooden bead wool or embroidery floss glue stick
Instructions: 1) Separate silk flowers from their stems. If it doesn't pull off easily, just use your scissors. Select however many layers of flower petals that you would like for the fairy's skirt. 2) Use markers to draw a face on the wooden bead. Be sure the hole is at the top of the head. 3) For the hair, wrap the embroidery floss (or wool) around your fingers to make hair. 4) Bend a pipe cleaner in half at the center point, place the centre of the floss inside the loop. 5) Take the bead and thread it snug onto the pipecleaners. 6) Make sure the head is tight against the floss, then snip the floss loops. Use a glue stick to keep the hair in place on the sides and back of the head. 7) For the body, take a pipe cleaners and stick it through the centre of the flower skirt. 8) Knot a shorter piece of pipe cleaner around twice under the head to create the torso and arms. 9) Fold in the tips of the legs and arms to make hands and feet. 10.a) Pipe cleaner wings: Wrap the wings pipe cleaner around the fairy's waist and twist it tightly in back. Shape the ends into wings, then trim any extra. 10.b) Feather wings: Choose 2 small feathers and attach them with white glue. 10.c) Leaf wings: use some of the leaves from the silk flowers and attach them to the fairy with glue.
Note: When choosing flowers at the store for a flower skirt, hold the bloom upside down and picture it on a fairy before you buy it. Also try adding a dried flower wand or a tiny crown for a special flower friend. Or put a smaller flower bloom on the top of the hair for a hat.
Baggie Butterflies
Fill a sandwich bag with scraps of tissue paper, aluminum foil, or colored cellophane. Don’t over fill. Gather the bag around the middle with a pipe cleaner to make the body and twist the ends to make the antennae.
Fairy Bubble Necklace
This is a necklace that is also a container that holds your bubble soap and wand.
Materials: Film Canister Pony Bead Yarn or Ribbon Pipe Cleaner Plastic Glue Homemade Bubble Mixture (recipe below)
Instructions: 1) Glue a pony bead on it's side to the center of the film container lid, making sure neither hole is covered with glue. Set it aside for the glue to dry. 2) Decorate the film canister if you would like to, but remember there is a very good chance it will get wet when you are blowing bubbles. 3) Cut a piece of yarn or ribbon long enough to fit over the head. Thread one end of the yarn through the bead and tie the ends together to form a necklace. 4) Make a small wand by forming one end of the pipe cleaner into a circle. Cut the pipe cleaner so the wand is small enough to fit into the film container. 5) Store your wand in your container along with some bubble solution.

This is a great project for more than one child or for a child’s party. Trace both of each child’s hands and cut them out. Have each child exchange one of their cut out hands with another child. Tape the two hands together to make butterfly wings. Decorate the wings with paint, markers, glitter, etc. Glue the hands onto a painted toilet paper tube or clothespin so that the friendship butterfly will have a body.
Egg Carton Caterpillar
Cut a section of 4 egg cups from an egg carton. Paint and let dry. Draw on a face with black marker. When the kids aren’t looking, attach a pipe cleaner for anetennas, make butterfly wings, and attach them to the caterpillar. Now put the butterfly you’ve created in a paper bag. When the child returns to retrieve their caterpillar, tell them it has made a cocoon (the paper bag). Then in a few days, let them open the bag and see that the caterpillar has turned into a butterfly.
This is a great craft for teachers to do with a pre-school class, it will make a huge impact on the kids.

Cut out eyes in blue felt, cheeks in pink & mouth in red felt. 4) Decorate the teeth with the details you just made. Glue one completed tooth to the outside of the box. 5) Create a tooth pocket by applying glue to the sides and bottom of the remaining tooth, leaving an opening at the top. Glue the pocket to the inside tray. Once the glue dries, the box is Tooth Fairy-ready. Have your child put his tooth inside the inner pocket.
Clothespin Butterfly
1) Cut out a pair of butterfly wings from construction paper. Decorate them any way you want, try gluing on buttons, gems, sequins, fabric scraps, etc. Then glue them to one side of a clothespin. This will make the body and wings. 2) To make the antenae, bend a pipecleaner in half, then wrap each side around a pencil (to make it curl). Then all you have to do is open the clothespin and close it around the middle of the pipecleaner. 3) Glue some wiggle eyes to the clothespin, along with a small pom pom to make a butterfly face. If you don’t want to do that, you can always use a marker to make the butterfly’s face.
Mushroom Fairy House
Materials: A heavy-duty paper bowl (uncoated) Two pieces of cardboard An empty toilet paper cardboard tube Paint Paintbrushes Glitter Dried Spanish moss White craft glue Scissors A pencil Assorted fairy furniture (see below)
Instructions: 1) Take the paper bowl and place it on one piece of cardboard upside-down. Trace around the edge with the pencil. Use the scissors to cut the circle out of the cardboard. Do the same with the other piece of cardboard. 2) Let the child paint the bowl, one cardboard circle, and toilet paper roll as they desire. Both sides should be painted of the cardboard, and the bowl and tube should be painted inside and outside. This is so it will look attractive to viewers from the outside, and beautiful to the fairies who will be living in it. 3) It is well known that fairies love sparkly things. That’s where the glitter comes in. Your child may like to put spots of glitter, or sprinkle it all over the wet paint. 4) Take the painted paper circle. Cut out a hole directly in the center that is slightly smaller in diameter than the toilet paper tube. 5) Take the toilet paper tube. On each end, cut 1/4 inch vertical slits, approximately ½ inches apart, to create tabs. Bend the tabs back slightly. On one end, which will be the bottom end, cut a rectangular doorway slightly above the tabs. It should measure approximately 1 inch wide and 2 inches tall. 6) Take the craft glue and put a dab of glue on of each of the bottom tabs. The glue should be on the side facing inward toward the center of the tube. Stand the tube in the center of the unpainted cardboard circle, spreading the tabs out and pressing them down on the cardboard. This will be the base. 7) Put a dab of glue on the inner side of the tabs on the top of the tube. Place the painted cardboard circle over it, centering the circle in the cardboard over the center of the tube. This will be the entrance that will allow the fairy to fly up after entering through the door. Allow the glue to dry before proceeding. 8) Put some small fairy furniture on the painted cardboard circle. It must be light to prevent the mushroom from tipping. This can be a tiny matchbox bed that was painted, with cotton inside and a tissue blanket to make it comfortable, or a little bean-bag chair for the fairy to sit on. Place any other trinkets inside that the child would like the fairies to have, as long as they fit. 9) Take the paper bowl and place it upside-down over the top cardboard circle, making sure it sits evenly on the platform. Make sure the furniture is not too big, or too close to the edge. You want the bowl to completely cover it. When you are satisfied with the furniture placement, glue it in place. 10) Put a ring of glue around the edge of the cardboard circle. Put the bowl over it, covering the fairy’s small home. 11) Spread glue over the bottom base around the tube, or the "stem." Cover it with Spanish moss by pressing it gently into the glue. Allow it to dry. 12) If you like, make a welcome sign to put in front of the house, inviting a fairy to take up residence. Any lucky fairy who stumbles upon this cute house will be happy to call it her home.
